Why I Became Faculty for CAPPA’s New Parent Educator Certification Program

I’m excited to officially announce my newest role as faculty for the New Parent Educator (NPE) Certification Program by Childbirth And Postpartum Professionals Association (CAPPA). As I take this next step in my career, I find myself reflecting on the path that led me here and the profound reasons behind my decision to take on this  role.

In this blog post, I want to share the driving forces and passions that have fueled my commitment to supporting and empowering new parents through education and guidance.

Passion for Parenthood:

As I navigated my own journey into parenthood, I became acutely aware of the challenges, joys, and complexities accompanying this transformative experience. Through my own experiences as a new parent, I developed a deeper empathy and understanding of  the needs of expectant employees. I became fascinated by the intricacies of parenthood and its profound impact  on individuals, families, and society as a whole, especially for those in the U.S. whose primary language is not English. This ignited my sincere desire to offer support and guidance to others embarking on this journey.

Desire to Make a Difference:

As I experienced firsthand the struggles and uncertainties new parents face , I felt drawn to take action and make a tangible difference in the lives of future parents. I recognized the immense potential of education as a tool for empowerment and sought out opportunities to channel my passion for parenthood into meaningful work. I have enjoyed supporting over 2,000 expectant & new families over the last seven years.

Last year, this opportunity for a CAPPA faculty position presented itself as the perfect avenue to combine my expertise, experiences, and aspirations in a way that allows me to effect positive change by training more NPEs. Specifically, I aim  to train more bilingual perinatal educators, so we can support a more diverse range of expectant parents and their newborns.

Belief in the Power of Education:

Central to my decision to become a CAPPA faculty member is my unwavering belief in the power of education to transform lives. I firmly believe that knowledge is powerful! By training more perinatal educators, we can reach more new parents to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to care for their newborns! CAPPA NPEs educate and empower new parents with evidence-based information, a non-judgemental mindset, and build bridges with other healthcare professionals to create a more supportive environment for new parents to navigate the challenges of parenthood with confidence, resilience, and positive mental attitudes. Education has the potential to enrich individual lives, strengthen families, build communities, and ultimately shape a better environment for  future generations.

Commitment to Lifelong Learning

Commitment to Lifelong Learning:

As a lifelong learner myself, I am deeply committed to ongoing growth, development, and discovery. Becoming a faculty member for CAPPA represents an opportunity to share my knowledge and expertise andmy commitment to continue learning and evolving alongside my students as I maintain my current certifications and have plans to add a few more. I am excited to engage in meaningful dialogue, exchange insights, and collaborate with fellow educators and professionals in the field as we collectively strive to elevate the standards of parent education and support.
